Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

3 – The menstruating woman should be told to wrap herself in an izār or to put on loose trousers when her husband wishes to touch her.

4 – Taken at face value, the ḥadith forbids contact with the woman between the navel and the knees, for that is the area covered by the izār that one is told to avoid. Yet this understanding is set aside by the noble verse, “So keep away from women during menstruation” (al-Baqarah 2:222), and by the sound report in which the Prophet ﷺ said, “Do anything you like except intercourse” (Muslim 302). The preponderant ruling, therefore, is that a husband may enjoy his wife’s entire body during menstruation except for the genital area.
