2 – It is not valid for her to perform ṭawāf (circumambulation of the Kaʿbah), for the ḥadīth says, “Circumambulating the House is prayer.”
3 – She is forbidden to recite the Quran, as indicated by the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar: “A menstruating woman and one in a state of major ritual impurity are not to recite anything of the Quran.”
4 – Nor may she touch the muṣḥaf (physical copy of the Quran), based on the ḥadīth of ʿAmr ibn Ḥazm: “No one should touch the muṣḥaf except a person in a state of purity.”
Benefit (2)
Clarification of the view that permits a menstruating woman to recite the Quran and to touch the muṣḥaf for the purpose of learning and teaching:
The sound position of the Mālikī school is that a menstruating woman may touch the muṣḥaf and recite the Quran when she is learning or teaching. They advance several proofs for this, and the ruling brings ease to female students and instructors in Qur’an memorization schools, helping to prevent those who have memorized the Quran from forgetting it—especially during the days of postpartum bleeding or prolonged menstruation. This view is likewise held by al-Bukhārī, al-Ṭabarī, Ibn al-Mundhir, Dāwūd, al-Shaʿbī, the early school of al-Shāfiʿī, and one narration from Aḥmad, and many contemporary scholars have adopted it.
