Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

1370 – ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet ﷺ taught her the following supplication:

“O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, in the present and the future, that which I know and that which I do not know; and I seek refuge in You from all that is evil, in the present and the future, that which I know and that which I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the best of what Your servant and Prophet asked of You, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your servant and Prophet sought refuge from. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for every word or deed that brings one closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word or deed that brings one closer to it. I also ask You to make every decree You decree for me turn out to be good.”

It was recorded by Ibn Majah, and declared authentic by Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim. ⦗1⦘

Hadith grading:
This Hadith is ṣaḥīḥ (authentic); both al-Hakim and Ibn Hibban authenticated it.

Al-Shawkani said in Tuhfat al-Dhakirin: al-Tirmidhi transmitted it from Abu Umamah.

Al-Tirmidhi graded it “sound but singular,” and did not declare it fully authentic because its chain contains Layth ibn Abi Sulaym. Although scholars have discussed him, Muslim did narrate from him, and his report does not fall short of the rank of sound.

Shaykh Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani stated: It was recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban through the route of Hammad ibn Salamah, who said, “Jabir ibn Habib informed me, from Umm Kulthum bint Abi Bakr, from ‘A’ishah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught her this supplication,” and he cited it in full.
