Benefits of Remembering Allah Most High
These benefits are distilled from the book Al-Wābil al-Ṣayyib by Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him:
– It expels Satan, subdues him, and breaks his power.
– It pleases the Most Merciful.
– It lifts worry and sorrow from the heart.
– It brings the heart joy, delight, energy, and cheer.
– It strengthens both heart and body.
– It illumines the heart and the face.
– It attracts provision.
– It clothes the one who remembers Allah with majesty, awe, and radiant beauty.
– It engenders love—the very soul of Islam, the pivot of the faith, and the foundation of happiness and salvation. Allah has appointed a cause for everything, and He has made continual remembrance the cause of His love; whoever seeks Allah’s love should persist in remembering Him.
– It fosters ināba (turning back) to Allah. Whoever frequently remembers Allah finds his heart returning to Him in all circumstances, so that Allah, exalted is He, becomes his refuge, shelter, sanctuary, and escape when calamities and trials occur.
– It brings a person near to Allah Most High: the more one remembers Him, the closer one is to Him; the more one is heedless, the farther away.
– It opens a door to knowledge, and the more abundant the remembrance, the greater the knowledge that follows.
