1346 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) said, “No people gather in a sitting where they remember Allah without the angels surrounding them, mercy covering them, and Allah mentioning them to those in His presence.” Recorded by Muslim.⦗1⦘
Vocabulary
– ḥaffat-humu ʼl-malāʾikah (the angels surrounded them): the verb ḥaffa is used in the phrase ḥaffa ʼl-qawmu biʼl-bayt, “the people circumambulated the House.” Here it means the angels encircle them on all sides.
– ghashiyat-hum ʼr-raḥmah (mercy covered them): from taghash-shī, “to cover with a garment,” that is, mercy envelopes, overshadows, and protects them.
