1344 – On the authority of Abū Hurayrah ﵁ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah the Exalted says: ‘I am with My servant as long as he remembers Me and his lips move in mention of Me.’” Reported by Ibn Mājah, declared authentic by Ibn Ḥibbān, and cited by al-Bukhārī in muʿallaq form (1).
Hadith grading:
Sound chain of transmission.
Ibn Ḥibbān authenticated it, and al-Bukhārī cited it in muʿallaq form, as the author noted.
Al-Būṣayrī remarks in Zawāʾid Ibn Mājah: the chain contains Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab al-Qurqasānī, about whom Ṣāliḥ ibn Muḥammad said, “weak.” Yet Ibn Ḥibbān included the report in his Ṣaḥīḥ through the route of Ayyūb ibn Suwayd, who is also weak, and al-Mundhirī mentioned it in al-Targhīb without comment.
The ḥadith carries the same meaning as the report recorded by al-Bukhārī (7405) and Muslim (2675) from Abū Hurayrah: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him whenever he remembers Me. If he remembers Me to himself, I remember him to Myself; and if he remembers Me in an assembly, I remember him in an assembly better than theirs.”
It also has a corroborating narration: al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī said that al-Ḥākim transmitted it (1/673) from Abū al-Dardāʾ and judged its chain sound.
