1339 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The two qualities that admit the greatest number of people into Paradise are taqwā of Allah (reverent God-consciousness) and good character.” Recorded by al-Tirmidhī, and al-Ḥākim declared it authentic. ⦗1⦘
Hadith grading:
• The hadith is ṣaḥīḥ (sound).
• It was transmitted by al-Tirmidhī and authenticated by al-Ḥākim.
• It possesses a great many corroborating reports: some ḥasan (fair), others weak, with varying degrees of weakness. Al-Ghazālī gathered these in Iḥyāʾ ʿUlūm al-Dīn, Book of Disciplining the Soul, and Imām Zayn al-Dīn al-ʿIrāqī clarified their individual grades. Among the corroborating narrations is what al-Bukhārī recorded (6035) and Muslim (2321): “The best of you are those who are best in character.”
