Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

6 – The Qur’anic verses and prophetic sayings that censure bad character and commend good character are exceedingly numerous. It is enough to mention His words, exalted is He: “Show forgiveness, enjoin what is right, and turn away from the ignorant.” ⦗al-Aʿrāf: 199⦘; and His words: “Good and evil are not equal; repel (evil) with that which is better.” ⦗Fussilat: 34⦘.

Al-Tirmidhi transmits (2002) on the authority of Abū al-Dardāʾ that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Allah detests the indecent, foul-mouthed person.” Abū Dāwūd relates (4798) from ʿĀʾishah who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare, “Through his good character the believer reaches the station of one who fasts during the day and stands in prayer throughout the night.”
