Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

10 – On the basis of the legislated bath for the Friday prayer, some scholars have concluded that bathing is recommended for every large congregational act of worship, such as the ʿEid prayer.

11 – The scholars further state that it is Sunnah, in preparation for Friday, to groom oneself by trimming the moustache, clipping the nails, eliminating unpleasant odors with the siwāk and the like, applying fragrance, and wearing one’s best clothes. Their evidence is the report in al-Bukhārī (883) from Salmān al-Fārisī (may Allah be pleased with him), in which the Prophet ﷺ said: “No man bathes on Friday, performs whatever purification he can, oils his hair, uses some of his wife’s perfume, and then goes out to the prayer and offers whatever has been prescribed for him, except that the sins committed between that Friday and the next are forgiven.”
