1268 – It is narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ — may Allah be pleased with them both — that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah’s pleasure lies in the pleasure of the parents, and Allah’s displeasure lies in the displeasure of the parents.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, and declared authentic by Ibn Ḥibbān and al-Ḥākim (1).

Degree of the ḥadīth
The ḥadīth is ṣaḥīḥ (authentic).
Al-Tirmidhī transmitted it from Shuʿbah through two chains: one marfūʿ (traced back to the Prophet) and the other mawqūf (halted) at ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr. Ibn ʿAdī said, “The mawqūf version is stronger; I know of no one who related it as marfūʿ except Khālid ibn al-Ḥārith from Shuʿbah.” Khālid ibn al-Ḥārith is trustworthy and reliable, and two other trustworthy narrators relied upon in the Ṣaḥīḥ have likewise reported it marfūʿ, as the esteemed editor of Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān has shown (2/173).
Al-Tirmidhī added: “There is also a report on this topic from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd.”
Al-Ḥākim graded it authentic according to Muslim’s criteria, and al-Dhahabī agreed.
Al-Suyūṭī likewise declared it sound in al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr.

– sakhṭ (anger, displeasure): from sakhiṭa sakhṭan; the noun sakhṭ, with a ḍamma on the sīn, denotes anger. Allah’s sakhṭ is likewise an attribute by which His Messenger ﷺ described Him;
