considered an act of honor, whereas for anything contrary to it the left side is preferred.

5 – Ibn al-ʿArabī said: “Beginning with the right is prescribed in all righteous deeds; in common speech the word ‘right’ suggests strength, and in the Sacred Law it indicates the recommendation to give it precedence.”

Al-Ḥalīmī added: “One starts with the left only when removing a garment, for clothing is a mark of honor and a form of protection. Because the right side is more noble than the left, it is given priority when dressing and is delayed when undressing, so that the honor lasts longer for it and its share of that honor is greater.”
