Al-Shawkani added: “All the transmitters in Ibn Majah’s chain are trustworthy.”

• From Abu Umamah, traced back to the Prophet, in al-Nasa’i’s al-Kubrá (3/492) with a chain whose transmitters are reliable, in the wording: “Whoever swears a lying oath by this pulpit, thereby usurping the wealth of a Muslim, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people; Allah will accept from him neither obligatory nor supererogatory deeds.”
• A corroborating narration from Abu Hurayrah was recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and al-Hakim, who declared it authentic, with al-Dhahabi agreeing.
Vocabulary:
• minbari (my pulpit): the raised platform in a mosque from which the preacher addresses the congregation. The term derives from the verb nabara, “to raise,” and its plural is manabir.
• tabawwa’a (he has taken up residence): from ba’a–yabu’u, meaning “to settle in a place and make it one’s dwelling.”
