Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam
  1. From this hadith the scholars have inferred that the testimony of anyone against whom no suspicion has appeared is accepted on the basis of his outward conduct. To declare a witness upright, it is sufficient that his visible behavior indicates rectitude, without attempting to uncover what lies in his inner heart, for such knowledge is impossible now that revelation has ceased.

  2. Al-Rawd and its marginal commentary state: Two upright men who attest to the integrity of the witness are enough to establish his reliability; this is the well-known position of the school. Another report within the madhhab holds that the commendation of one person for one witness is sufficient, and this is the view upon which practice is based.
