1212 – Abu Maryam al-Azdi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever Allah entrusts with any matter concerning the Muslims and he then bars himself from their needs and from their poor—Allah will bar Himself from his own needs.”
Related by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi (1).
Grade of the hadith
The chain of transmission is good.
Ibn Ḥajar states in al-Talkhīs that it was narrated by al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and al-Hakim, who declared it authentic, and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. Al-Hakim also produced a corroborating report, from which Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi transmitted it. Al-Tabarani included it in al-Kabir through the route of Ibn Abbas. Ibn Abi Hatim quoted his father in al-ʿIlal as saying, “This hadith is munkar (denounced).”
As for the version traced back to the Prophet (marfūʿ), Abu Dawud maintained silence regarding it, al-Tirmidhi said, “It is a gharīb (singular) hadith,” and al-Mundhiri raised no objection.
Al-Sanʿani remarked that al-Tabarani narrated it with trustworthy transmitters except for his own shaykh, about whom al-Mundhiri found neither criticism nor praise.
Al-Ḥafiz Ibn Ḥajar concluded in Fath al-Bari (13/133): “Its chain is good.”
