and, according to a number of scholars, it incurs no expiation.

Al-Muqniʿ states: “It is also possible that neither a vow concerning something merely permissible nor a sinful vow takes effect, and that no expiation is required for either.” Al-Muwaffaq affirms this view in al-ʿUmdah, and it is likewise the position of Malik and al-Shafiʿi.
