3 – Istinjāʾ* (ritual cleansing after relieving oneself) has three levels:
(a) The most complete is to wipe with stones and then follow with water until all impurity is removed.
(b) Next in merit is to rely on water alone.
(c) Last in rank and virtue is to rely on stones alone, for water is more effective in cleansing and removing impurity.
