5 – The hadith forbids swearing by Allah while knowingly lying, for that is al-yamīn al-ghamūs—the oath that plunges its taker into the Fire of Hell. In Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (6675) it is related that a Bedouin asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins?” The Prophet listed several of them and then added, “and al-yamīn al-ghamūs.”
