1183 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed them to sacrifice two equivalent sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl.” Al-Tirmidhī related it and graded it authentic. (1)
Aḥmad and the four Sunan compilers also narrated a similar report from Umm Kurz al-Kaʿbiyyah. (2)

Status of the ḥadith:
The report is ṣaḥīḥ.
It was collected by Aḥmad, al-Tirmidhī, Ibn Mājah, Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Bayhaqī through the chain of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khuthaym, from Yūsuf ibn Māhak, from Ḥafṣah, from ʿĀʾishah, stating that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to offer the ʿaqīqah for a male… and so forth.
Al-Tirmidhī remarked: “It is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.”
Its chain is sound according to Muslim’s criteria, and it is further supported by several additional routes and corroborating narrations:
• Among them is the ḥadith of ʿĀʾishah recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī and al-Bayhaqī, whose isnād is ḥasan; its transmitters are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
• Also among them are the ḥadith of Umm Kurz al-Kaʿbiyyah, the ḥadith of Asmāʾ bint Yazīd, the ḥadith of ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, and others.
The ḥadith was declared authentic by Ibn Ḥibbān and by al-Ḥākim, with al-Dhahabī concurring.
