1182 – Ibn ʿAbbās reported: “The Prophet ﷺ offered the ʿaqīqah for al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn, a ram for each of them.” The report is found in Abū Dāwūd and was declared authentic by Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn al-Jārūd, and ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq, though Abū Ḥātim preferred the view that its chain is murs al (interrupted). (1) Ibn Ḥibbān also transmitted a similar narration from Anas. (2)
Hadith grading:
This ḥadith is ṣaḥīḥ.
Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn al-Jārūd, ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq, and Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd all authenticated it; the latter stated in al-Muḥarrar that its chain meets al-Bukhārī’s criteria.
It further enjoys multiple supporting chains, for it has been narrated by several Companions—ʿAlī, Ibn ʿAbbās, Jābir, Anas, Buraydah, and ʿĀʾishah ﵃:
• Ibn ʿAbbās’s version is recorded by Abū Dāwūd, al-Ṭaḥāwī, and al-Bayhaqī, with a chain authentic according to al-Bukhārī’s standards.
• ʿĀʾishah’s narration appears in al-Ṭaḥāwī, Ibn Ḥibbān, al-Ḥākim, and al-Bayhaqī. Al-Ḥākim ruled its chain authentic, al-Dhahabī agreed, and Ibn al-Sakan also graded it sound.
• Buraydah’s report is found in the Musnad of Aḥmad, al-Nasaʾī, and al-Ṭabarānī. Ibn Ḥajar said: “Its chain is sound and meets Muslim’s criteria.”
• Anas’s narration is collected by al-Ṭaḥāwī, Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Ṭabarānī; regarding it, al-Haythamī observed: “Its transmitters are those of the Ṣaḥīḥ.”
