Shaykh al-Islam Taqi al-Din (Ibn Taymiyyah) said: “An udhiyyah (festive sacrifice), an ʿaqīqah (newborn sacrifice), and a hady (pilgrimage offering) are all better than giving their monetary value in charity. They count as customary household expenses. Thus, a guardian may offer a sacrifice on behalf of an orphan out of the orphan’s own funds; a wife may take from her husband’s wealth what she needs to slaughter a sacrifice for the household, even if he has not explicitly given permission; and a debtor may still offer a sacrifice provided he is not being pressed to repay the debt.”
