Third: Bullfighting.
The form of bullfighting practiced in certain parts of the world—where a trained fighter skillfully wields weapons until the bull is killed—is likewise forbidden by Islamic law. It puts the animal to death through torture, as spears are driven into its body, and these contests often end with the bull killing its opponent. Such a spectacle is a barbaric act rejected by the Sharia, whose Chosen Messenger ﷺ said in an authentic hadith: “A woman was cast into Hell for imprisoning a cat: she neither fed it nor gave it water while she kept it confined, nor did she release it so that it might eat the vermin of the earth.” If merely confining a cat brings about entry into Hell on the Day of Resurrection, then how much worse is the condition of one who tortures a bull with weapons until it dies!
Fourth: Inciting animals to fight one another.
The Council likewise rules unlawful the practice, found in some lands, of urging animals—such as camels, rams, cocks, and others—to fight until they kill or grievously injure one another.
May Allah send blessings and abundant peace upon our master Muhammad, his family, and his Companions. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.
