1098 – Jarīr al-Bajalī (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I disavow every Muslim who takes up residence among the polytheists.” It was related by the Three, its chain is sound, though al-Bukhārī preferred the view that it is mursal. ⦗1⦘

Hadith grading (1098):
The hadith is authentic. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said, “Its chain is sound,” and al-Mubārakfūrī commented, “Its transmitters are trustworthy.” Nonetheless, many scholars considered it mursal, and al-Bukhārī, Abū Ḥātim, Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and al-Dāraqutnī deemed it mursal up to Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, while al-Ṭabarānī narrated it as a fully connected report. -
Vocabulary of the two hadiths:
– barīʾ: One says, “barīʾa (So-and-so) min (such-and-such),” meaning he parted from it, was unharmed by it, and dissociated himself from it. The active participle is barīʾ; the plural is barāʾ.
– “lā hijrata baʿda al-fatḥ”: ḥijrah, with a kasrah on the hāʾ, is the verbal noun of hājara – yuhājiru – muhājara and denotes leaving one’s family, clan, and homeland in flight with one’s religion. “The Conquest” refers to the conquest of Mecca in the eighth year after the Hijrah.
