1070 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Are you trying to intercede in a legal penalty set by Allah?” He then rose and addressed the people, saying, “O people, those who came before you were ruined only because when a noble person among them stole they let him go, but when a weak person stole they carried out the prescribed punishment upon him.” Agreed upon; the wording is Muslim’s.
Muslim also relates through another chain from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her): “There was a woman who used to borrow household goods and then deny them, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered that her hand be cut off.” (1)
1071 – Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “No hand is to be cut off for an embezzler, a snatcher, or a plunderer.” Reported by Aḥmad and the Four, and declared sound by al-Tirmidhī and Ibn Ḥibbān. (2)
