1062 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) said: “Avoid these vile deeds that Allah has forbidden. Whoever becomes entangled in any of them, let him keep himself within Allah’s covering and repent to Him; for whoever exposes his crime to us, we shall enforce against him the Book of Allah, Exalted is He.” Related by al-Ḥākim.
It also appears in the Muwaṭṭaʾ among the mursal reports of Zayd ibn Aslam.⦗1⦘
— Status of the ḥadīth
The ḥadīth is sound. The compiler states: “Al-Ḥākim narrated it and said that it meets the conditions set by the two Shaykhs.” In the Muwaṭṭaʾ it is found as a mursal report from Zayd ibn Aslam. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said, “I know of no instance in which this ḥadīth is transmitted with a connected chain.” What Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr meant is Malik’s version; as for al-Ḥākim, he reported it with a continuous isnād through Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār, from Ibn ʿUmar, traced back to the Prophet, and declared: “This is an authentic ḥadīth according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, although they did not include it.” Al-Dhahabī concurred, and Ibn al-Sakan likewise deemed it sound.
— Vocabulary
• al-qādhūrāt (sing. qādhūrah): from the verb qádira (the middle consonant may take any of the three short vowels), meaning “to be filthy”; its verbal nouns are qadran and qadhārah. The term has several senses, among them “sexual obscenity,” which is what is meant here.
• alamma: the expression lamma al-shayʾa—yallimmu lamm-an—means “to gather or collect something.” Hence alamma al-rajul bi-l-dhanb means “the man committed the sin.”
