1058 – Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) said: “If you find anyone committing the act of the people of Lot, then execute the active partner and the passive partner alike; and if you find anyone who has had intercourse with an animal, execute him and put the animal to death as well.” It was narrated by Aḥmad and the Four Sunan compilers, and its transmitters are deemed reliable, although there is some disagreement regarding it (1).
Hadith grading:
The ḥadith is ṣaḥīḥ.
Its narrators are trustworthy, yet there remains a point of dispute.
The report contains two distinct clauses:
-
“If you find anyone committing the act of the people of Lot, then execute the active partner and the passive partner.”
• Al-Albānī declared the ḥadith authentic; it was recorded by Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd, and al-Tirmidhī, all through the chain of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad.
• Al-Ḥākim said, “Its chain is sound,” and al-Dhahabī concurred. The report is further corroborated by ʿAbbād ibn Manṣūr from ʿIkrima, and was transmitted by Aḥmad and al-Bayhaqī through several routes from ʿAbbād. -
“And if you find anyone who has had intercourse with an animal, execute him and execute the animal.”
• Al-Albānī judged this clause authentic as well; it was recorded by Aḥmad, al-Tirmidhī, al-Dāraquṭnī, al-Ḥākim, and al-Bayhaqī through the chain of ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr, from ʿIkrima, from Ibn ʿAbbās.
