1045 – Muʿādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: “A man embraced Islam and then turned Jew. Muʿādh said, ‘I will not sit down until he is put to death; this is the judgment of Allah and His Messenger.’ The order was therefore given and the man was executed.” Agreed upon.
In another version reported by Abū Dāwūd: “He had already been asked to repent beforehand.” (1)
1046 – Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever changes his religion, kill him.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī. (2)

Authenticity note for Hadith 1045: Ibn Ḥajar, in Fatḥ al-Bārī, regarded Abū Dāwūd’s version as stronger than the reports that omit the call to repentance.
