946 – Sulaymān ibn Yasār said: “I met a few-and-ten of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and all of them would impose a deadline on the muʾlī (the husband who has sworn ʾilāʾ).” Reported by al-Shāfiʿī (1).

Hadith grading: The hadith is ṣaḥīḥ (sound).

Al-Shāfiʿī transmitted it, saying: “Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah informed us, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Sulaymān ibn Yasār …” and he cited the report.

With this same chain it was also narrated by Ibn Abī Shaybah and by Aḥmad in the Masāʾil recorded by his son. This chain is sound according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

Glossary of the hadith:
– biḍʿatu ʿashar: biḍʿa, with a kasrah on the bāʾ, refers to any number from three to nine.
– yaqifūna: meaning they fixed for him the permissible period of ʾilāʾ, namely four months.
