Vocabulary of the ḥadīth
– duʿiya aḥadukum (“if one of you is invited”): passive voice, meaning invited to the food of the walīmah. The noun daʿwah (invitation) is pronounced with fatḥah on the dāl for this sense; with ḍammah—duʿwah—it denotes a summons to war; with kasrah—diʿwah—it refers to a claim of lineage.
