some harm. On this basis, people do not treat such congratulatory formulas as devotional acts; they are merely social customs exchanged on various occasions, and there is nothing objectionable in them.
- Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm said: Publicly announcing the marriage with the duff (frame drum) is sunnah. Songs that contain admonition, rousing themes, and the like carry no objection; but songs centered on romantic infatuation, or accompanied by instruments of entertainment, are forbidden.
مفسدة؛ وعلى هذا الأصل: فإنَّ النَّاس لم يقصدوا التعبد بها، وإنَّما هي عوائد جرت بينهم في مناسبات، لا محذور فيها.
٩ - قال الشيخ محمد بن إبراهيم: إعلان النكاح بالدف سُنَّة، وأما الأغاني المشتملة على مواعظ، وحماس، ونحو ذلك، فلا محذور فيها، وأما الأغاني التي فيها غرام، أو معها آلة طرب، فهي حرام.
