833 – Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī narrated: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Allah has already allotted to every person with a right his due, so there is no will in favour of an heir.’” Reported by Aḥmad and the Four, with the exception of al-Nasāʾī. Aḥmad and al-Tirmidhī graded it ḥasan, while Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn al-Jārūd judged it sound. (1)
Al-Dāraquṭnī also transmitted it from Ibn ʿAbbās with the additional wording at the end: “unless the heirs consent,” and its chain is ḥasan. (2)

Status of the ḥadith:
The ḥadith is authentic. It has come down through a large number of Companions: Abū Umāmah, ʿAmr ibn Khārijah, Ibn ʿAbbās, Anas, Ibn ʿUmar, Jābir, ʿAlī, ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr, al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, and Zayd ibn Arqam.
Shaykh al-Albānī remarked: In sum, the report is ṣaḥīḥ beyond doubt. It is conveyed by Sharaḥīl ibn Muslim al-Khawlānī, who said, “I heard Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī say, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ state, ‘Allah has given every rightful claimant his entitlement; therefore no bequest is to be made for an heir.’’’”
Al-Tirmidhī said: “A ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ ḥadith.”
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī and other later scholars counted this narration among the mutawātir traditions, because its various lines of transmission reinforce one another. Although some of its routes contain a degree of weakness that remains tolerable and others are intrinsically ḥasan, the criteria for a mutawātir ḥadith do not require every single chain to be flawless; its authenticity rests on their combined strength, not on any one chain in isolation.
