757 – On the authority of Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh – may Allah be pleased with him – who said: “I wanted to travel to Khaybar, so I came to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, ‘When you reach my agent in Khaybar, take from him fifteen wasqs.’” Reported by Abū Dāwūd, who declared it authentic. (1)
Hadith grading
The hadith is ḥasan (sound).
Ibn Ḥajar said in al-Talkhīṣ: Abū Dāwūd transmitted it through Wahb b. Kaysān with a sound chain; al-Bukhārī cited part of it in a suspended form at the end of the Book of al-Khums; and Abū Dāwūd judged it authentic.
Shaykh Ḥāmid al-Fiqī added: The ḥāfiẓ graded its isnād as good, though it comes through Muḥammad b. Isḥāq.
I say: Ibn ʿAbd al-Hādī noted that in certain routes Muḥammad b. Isḥāq explicitly stated “I heard,” and the ḥāfiẓ relayed Abū Dāwūd’s authentication of the hadith.
