728 – Anas ibn Mālik (d. 93 AH) reported that “the Prophet ﷺ forbade selling grapes until they turn black, and selling grain until it hardens.” It was narrated by the Five—apart from al-Nasa’i—and declared authentic by Ibn Hibbān and al-Hākim. ⦗1⦘
Degree of authenticity:
The ḥadith is ṣaḥīḥ. Ibn Hibbān graded it sound, and al-ʿIrāqī said in al-Talkhīs that it was transmitted by Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Mājah, while al-Hākim authenticated it through the chain of Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from Ḥumayd, from Anas. Al-Tirmidhi and al-Bayhaqī noted that Ḥammād ibn Salamah is the sole narrator from Ḥumayd. Nonetheless, Ḥammād is reliable; hence al-Tirmidhi classed the report as ḥasan, and al-Hākim together with al-Dhahabī judged it to satisfy the conditions of Muslim.
