Third: We have already noted the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, transmitted by Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī and judged authentic by Ibn Khuzaymah, in which the Prophet ﷺ wiped his head, inserted his forefingers into his ears, and wiped the outer parts of his ears with his thumbs—without any mention of taking fresh water for the ears.
Fourth: It has also been established that the ears are part of the head; both linguistically and in the Sharīʿah they fall under its definition.
Fifth: Ibn al-Qayyim states in Zād al-Maʿād that no sound report proves the Prophet ﷺ ever took separate water for his ears. He likewise says in Tuḥfat al-Aḥwadhī: “I have not found any authentic, uncontested ḥadīth indicating that the ears were wiped with new water.”
