have I delivered the message?’ They answered, ‘Yes.’ He then said, ‘O Allah, bear witness.’
6 – As for the sermon delivered on the first of the Days of Tashrīq, it contained the following:
‘Take heed: do not wrong one another. Indeed, the wealth of a Muslim is unlawful for anyone else except with his willing consent. Be aware that every form of usury from the Age of Ignorance is hereby abolished. Fear Allah regarding women, for they are like captives under your charge and possess nothing for themselves. They have rights over you, and you have a right over them: that they do not permit anyone to lie on your bedding besides you, nor admit into your homes anyone you dislike. Whoever is entrusted with something must return the trust to the one who entrusted him.
People, your Lord is one and your father is one. No Arab has any superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab over an Arab; no red-skinned person over a black-skinned person, nor a black-skinned person over a red-skinned person—except by piety.’
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muʿādh, may Allah be pleased with him, said: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us while we were in Minā, and our ears were opened so that we could hear what he said even while we remained in our tents.’
Thus Allah—majestic and exalted—raised up his voice and caused his call to reach far and wide; He is able to do all things.
