– The departure from ʿArafah to Muzdalifah must be after sunset and before the Maghrib prayer is performed.
– It is recommended to leave with calmness, dignity, humility, reverence, frequent takbir and talbiyah. If the driver finds an open lane he may proceed; otherwise he should wait until the vehicle in front moves. He must not overtake other cars but adhere to the traffic plan, for that is safer for him and easier for his passengers and the rest of the pilgrims.
– It is permissible for a pilgrim in ihram to shade himself under a tent.
– The Shaykh said: The Prophet ﷺ did not prescribe any particular supplication or remembrance for ʿArafah. Rather, the pilgrim may invoke with whatever legitimate prayers he wishes, proclaim the takbir and the tahlil, and remember Allah until the sun sets. Sunan al-Tirmidhī records from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The best thing I and the prophets before me have ever said is: ‘There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things.’”
– The Shaykh added: One should strive hard in supplication and remembrance on this afternoon, for it is a day when the response is earnestly hoped for, and he should raise his hands. Ibn ʿAbbās said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at ʿArafah supplicating with his hands raised to his chest” (reported by Abū Dāwūd). Satan has never been seen on any day smaller, more humiliated, more enraged, or more driven away than on the eve of ʿArafah, because of what he witnesses of the descent of mercy and Allah’s pardoning of great sins—except on the day of Badr.
– He should not consider the answer slow in coming, for Allah the Exalted says, “Call upon Me and I will answer you” ⦗Ghafir: 60⦘. Let him increase in seeking forgiveness, humble entreaty, reverence, and in showing weakness and need; let him persist in supplication, for this is a momentous station where tears are shed and slips are forgiven, and it is the greatest gathering in the world.
