Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

he reached ʿArafat, where he found that a pavilion had been set up for him at Namirah; there he dismounted. When the sun passed its zenith, he ordered that al-Qaswaʾ be made ready, mounted her, and rode to the hollow of the valley. He addressed the people there, then called for the adhān; the iqāma was pronounced and he led the noon prayer, followed by a second iqāma and the afternoon prayer, offering nothing between the two.

He then mounted again and came to the place of standing. He positioned the belly of his she-camel al-Qaswaʾ toward the rocks, kept the line of pedestrians before him, and faced the qibla. He remained standing until the sun had set and the yellow glow had faded slightly—until the very disk had disappeared—then he moved on, drawing al-Qaswaʾ’s reins so tight that her head nearly touched the rear of his saddle, while signaling with his right hand: “People, calmness, calmness!” Whenever he approached an incline he would loosen the rein a little so she could ascend, continuing thus until he reached Muzdalifah.

There he performed the sunset and night prayers with a single adhān and two iqāmas, without offering any supererogatory prayer in between. He then lay down until dawn broke, and prayed the dawn prayer when the morning light became clearly visible, with one adhān and one iqāma.

Next he mounted and came to al-Mashʿar al-Ḥarām. Facing the qibla, he supplicated Allah, magnified Him, proclaimed His oneness, and affirmed His exclusive divinity, remaining in that posture until daylight spread widely. He then set off before sunrise, and when he reached the valley of Muḥassir he urged the camel on a little. He took the middle route that leads to the Grand Jamrah and, upon reaching the Jamrah beside the tree, he pelted it with seven pebbles, uttering takbīr with each cast. Each pebble was about the size of a date stone. He threw them from the floor of the valley, then moved on to the place of sacrifice, where he slaughtered his offerings and afterwards mounted once more.
