Among those who adopted this conclusion are ʿAlī, Ibn ʿAbbās, ʿAṭāʾ, Ṭāwūs, al-Ḥasan, and Masrūq; it is likewise the ruling of Abū Ḥanīfah and one narration from Aḥmad, a position chosen by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah.

Those who hold that a desirous kiss does invalidate ablution contend that the hadith speaks of a kiss of compassion and affection, not of passion—and Allah knows best.
