Vocabulary of the two ḥadiths:
• “Akhadha ʿalaynā” – he took from us a pledge and obligated us not to wail.
• “Bimā nīḥa ʿalayhi” – the preposition bi indicates causation, and mā is a verbal-noun particle, meaning “because of the wailing over him.”
• “Nīḥa” – pronounced with a kasrah on the nūn, a sukūn on the yāʾ, and a fatḥah on the ḥāʾ; it appears in the passive voice.
