3 – Hadith no. 452 indicates that a man may wash his wife.

4 – Likewise, hadith no. 453 shows that the wife may wash her husband, and Imām Aḥmad, Ibn al-Mundhir, and al-Wazīr have recorded consensus on this point.

As for a man’s washing of his wife, this is the position of the three Imams and the majority of scholars. Abū Ḥanīfah disagreed, ruling that a husband may not wash his wife, arguing that the marital bond is terminated by death. His proof is an analogy with her washing him, but analogy alone is inadequate.
