one can benefit them or harm them except their Lord; therefore they lay their needs before Him and raise their poverty and destitution to Him.
2 – Animals are likewise created upon an innate recognition of Allah and are inspired to obey Him. Allah says: “There is not a thing except that it glorifies Him with praise, but you do not comprehend their glorification” (al-Isrāʾ 17:44).
3 – The act of seeking nearness and the supplication that Allah inspired this ant to make when asking her Lord for relief contain her admission that no one creates or provides except Allah. She openly displayed her need and dependence upon Him and sought from Him aid and provision.
4 – Raising the hands while making supplication is recommended, especially in the prayer for rain, as is authentically reported from the Prophet in both Ṣaḥīḥs.
5 – All created beings are instinctively aware that Allah, blessed and exalted, is above the heaven; He possesses absolute exaltedness in His essence, attributes, power and dominion.
6 – The prayer for rain (istisqāʾ) was legislated for the nations before us as well. The Qur’an states: “And when Moses prayed for water for his people We said, ‘Strike the rock with your staff,’ and twelve springs gushed forth from it” (al-Baqarah 2:60).
7 – This story also showcases one of the miracles granted to Allah’s Prophet Solomon—his knowledge of the speech of birds, animals and insects. Though a miracle, it is also an honor bestowed on him, for he had prayed, “Grant me a kingdom such as shall not belong to anyone after me” (Ṣād 38:35). Allah granted what he asked, saying, “This is Our gift” (Ṣād 38:39), and then, “And surely for him with Us is nearness and an excellent return” (Ṣād 38:40).
8 – The description, “raising her legs toward the sky,” is among the proofs that Allah is exalted above His creation. The attribute of highness is established for Allah by the Book, the Sunnah, scholarly consensus, sound reason and innate disposition.
As for the Book, Allah says: “He is the Most High, the Most Great” (al-Baqarah 2:255).
