- The narrator’s inclusion of the two Shaykhs—Abu Bakr and ʿUmar—alongside the Prophet ﷺ when reporting a Sunnah is meant only to show that this practice remained firmly established and was observed after the Prophet’s death, that it was never abrogated, and that both of the rightly guided caliphs carried it out in the presence of the senior Companions. Their mention is not, in any sense, to imply that they participated in legislation—Allah forbid.
