Shaykh al-Islām said: When Jumuʿah and the ʿĪd occur on the same day, the scholars hold three opinions. The soundest of them is that whoever has attended the ʿĪd prayer is exempt from the Jumuʿah prayer, for two acts of worship of the same type have coincided, allowing one to stand in for the other. Furthermore, requiring both would curb the very aim of the ʿĪd and the sunnah of joy and relaxation prescribed for the day; hence Jumuʿah is waived.
8 – The ḥadith also shows that people should be alerted to rulings that may be unknown to them, and that the reminder should come at the moment of need, when they are most likely to benefit from it.
