355 – Muʿādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “We set out with the Prophet ﷺ on the expedition of Tabuk, and he would combine the Zuhr and ʿAsr prayers, and the Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ prayers.” Narrated by Muslim (1).
356 – Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not shorten the prayer on a journey of less than four barīd—the distance from Mecca to ʿUsfān.” Al-Dāraqutnī transmitted it with a weak chain. The correct judgment is that it is mawqūf, as Ibn Khuzaymah also recorded it in that form (2).
* Degree of the hadith:
The report is weak; the more accurate judgment is that it is mawquf (stopped at the Companion). It is weak because its chain includes Ismail ibn Ayyash—whose narrations from Hijazi transmitters are unreliable—and Abd al-Wahhab ibn Mujahid, who is abandoned. The correct view is that the wording is Ibn Abbas’s own statement, as noted by al-Bayhaqi (3/137). Ibn al-Mulaqqin declared the report weak when treated as marfu (attributed to the Prophet) but sound when taken as mawquf.
* Lexical note:
– “Four burud”: both the ba and the ra carry a damma; plural of barid. Al-Bukhari states that one barid equals sixteen farsakh, while al-Ayni explains that a farsakh is three miles.
The editor adds: one mile ≈ 1,600 meters.

٣٥٥ - وَعَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ﵁ قَالَ: "خَرَجْنا معَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ وَالعَصْرَ جَمِيعًا، وَالمَغْرِبَ وَالعِشَاءَ جَمِيْعًا". روَاهُ مُسْلِمٍ (١).
٣٥٦ - وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ﵄ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ "لاَ تَقْصُرُوا الصَّلاَةَ فِي أقَلَّ مِنْ أَرْبَعَة بُرْدٍ؛ مِنْ مَكَّةَ إِلى عُسْفَانَ". رَوَاهُ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ بِإِسْنَادٍ ضعِيْفٍ. والصَّحِيْحُ أَنَّهُ مَوْقُوفٌ، كذَا أَخْرَجَهُ ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ (٢).
* درجة الحديث:
الحديث ضعيف، والصحيح أنه موقوفٌ.
فهو ضعيف؛ لأنَّ فيه إسماعيل بن عياش، وروايته عن الحجازيين ضعيفة، وعبد الوهاب بن مجاهد متروك، والصحيح: أنَّ ذلك من قول ابن عباس، كما قال البيهقي (٣/ ١٣٧)، وضعَّفه ابن الملقن مرفوعاً، وصححه موقوفًا.
* مفردات الحديث:
- أربعة بُرُد: بضم الباء والراء، جمع "بريد"، والبريد: قال البخاري: ستة عشر فرسخًا، قال العيني: والفرسخ ثلاثة أميال.
قال محرره: والميل (١٦٠٠) متر.
