the last piece of falsehood and ignorance he let slip, I would like to ask this biased zealot for his view on the following:
-
We believe that, when Jesus descends, he will rule by the Book and the Sunnah and not by any one of the four schools of law. Do you share this conviction with us, or do you hold the opposite view that we refuted in our brief commentary?
-
We believe that every school of law contains both correctness and error and that no school is immune from mistake. Do you agree with us, or do you say that your Ḥanafī school is entirely right while every other school is entirely wrong?
If in both questions you answer as we do, the readers will see that your response to us was nothing but contentious sophistry—fishing in troubled waters out of rancor and jealousy, currying favor with the laypeople who, because of people like you, imagine that the partisan follower of a school is the one truly worthy of being followed and that truth* can take multiple, contradictory forms, repeating the line: “wa-kulluhum min Rasūlillāh multamis” (all of them draw from the Messenger of Allah). Should your answers contradict our position, then—as has already been shown—you are both misguided and self-contradictory. We therefore ask Allah for guidance to the truth and to noble character.
I now add the following: Abū Ghuddah, in his annotation to “Al-Taṣrīḥ bimā Tawātara fī Nuzūl al-Masīḥ” (p. 58), writes:
“The eminent scholar al-Ālūsī said in his exegesis:
‘When Jesus (peace be upon him) descends, he will remain upon his previous prophethood; he will in no way be stripped of it. However, he will not worship according to that dispensation, for it has been abrogated for him and for everyone else. He will be charged with the rulings of this sharīʿah, in both its fundamentals and its details; no revelation will come to him, nor will he establish new rulings; rather, he will be…’"
