62 — One of the people of knowledge narrated to me, from Khalaf ibn Khalīfa: al-Hajjāj ibn Dīnār narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Dhakwān, from Ubayd ibn Umayr, from Amr ibn Abasa, that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), “What is faith?” He replied, “Patience, generosity, and good character. By patience is meant abstaining from what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has forbidden; by generosity, fulfilling what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has made obligatory upon him; and by good character, noble conduct and deeds.”
