52 — Abū Jafar, the client of Banū Hāshim, related to me: Abū Bakr al-Madīnī related to me, saying: Saīd ibn al-Ās said, “My son, if noble character were easy and readily attained, the ignoble would have outstripped you in pursuing it. But it is arduous and bitter, and none can endure it except one who recognizes its merit and hopes for its reward.”
