Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

473 — Abū Muhammad al-Bāhilī narrated to us, saying: My paternal uncle, Abd al-Malik ibn Qurayb al-Asmaī, narrated to us, saying: I heard our companions relate that they heard Alī ibn Asma say:

Ibn Āmir said to me, “Whenever you ask me to fulfill a need, place a screen between you and me. Then, if it is refused, the refusal will not confront you; but if it is granted, its fulfillment will reach you.”
