51 — Abd al-Rahmān ibn Yahyā al-Dabīlī related to me: Uthmān ibn Umāra Abū Saīd narrated to us, from al-Mubārak ibn Fadāla, from Humayd ibn Hilāl, who said: I entered Kufa and sat with al-Rabī ibn Khuthaym. He said, “O brother of Banū Adī, adhere to noble character: put it into practice and keep it as your constant companion. Know that the One who created noble character did not create it or point the way to it until He loved it and made it beloved to those who embody it.”
