Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

461 — Abū Zayd al-Numayrī narrated to me, saying: Shihāb ibn Abbād narrated to me, saying: Ibn Qays al-Ruqayyāt praised Bishr ibn Marwān, saying:

[Kāmil meter]

O Bishr, O son of the Ja'fari woman, Allah
Did not create your hands for stinginess.

Noble foremothers brought him forth,
Not one of them from Jarm or Ukl.

He said: Bishr then told him, “Name your reward.” He replied, “Twenty thousand.” Bishr said, “May Allah put you to shame! Twenty thousand is yours, and twenty thousand more”—and so it continued until the total reached one hundred thousand.
