454 — Abd al-Rahmān ibn Sālih narrated to me: Yahyā ibn Yaʿlā narrated to us, from Yūnus ibn Khabbāb, from Mujāhid, who said:
A man came to al-Hasan and al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them both—and begged them for aid. They said, “Begging is proper only in three cases: ruinous need, a burdensome liability undertaken on behalf of others, or a crushing debt.” They then gave him something.
He next went to Ibn Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—who gave him something without asking him any questions. The man said, “I went to your two cousins, although they are younger than you, and they questioned me and said those words to me, whereas you asked me nothing.”
He replied, “They are the two grandsons of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They were fed knowledge as fledglings are fed.”
